 Directions

The top of this book thong is larger than the bottom. When in use, the larger end with the charm hangs over the top of a book's spine, and the bottom of the bookmark dangles over the edge of a bookshelf.

Beaded book thongs, Step 1

1. Decide on the order of your alternating beads and spacers. Optional: You can preview your beaded designs with a pair of 2" eye pins or head pins to hold the beads temporarily.

Beaded book thongs, Step 2

2. String the charm on the waxed linen thread and tie a slip knot near one end, leaving a short tail of thread. (See our Knot Tying Guide for illustrations of the three knots used in this project.)

Beaded book thongs, Step 3

3. String one "E" bead and the first larger glass bead on the working thread. Also pass the thread's tail through both of these beads. Slide the beads toward the charm. Cut off only the excess tail thread above the second bead.

Beaded book thongs, Step 4

4. String your first spacer, then continue with the rest of the top half of your bead thong, alternating beads and spacers and ending with a single seed bead.

Beaded book thongs, Step 5

5. Tie a loose overhand knot above the seed bead. With tweezers through the loose overhand knot, grasp the working thread immediately above the seed bead. Holding the tweezers in place, tighten the knot against the seed bead. Remove tweezers and make sure this knot is snug against the seed bead.

Beaded book thongs, Step 6

6. Tie a second overhand knot 10" beyond the first. String one seed bead. Continue to string the remainder of your beads and spacers, ending with a larger glass bead followed by the last seed bead.

Beaded book thongs, Step 7

7. Tie an overhand knot twice, again using tweezers to keep this knot close to the last seed bead. Coat all four knots with clear nail polish and allow to dry. Trim off the excess tail thread close to the final knot, and apply a second coat of nail polish to all the knots.
